Lt. Col. Kindallis "King" Bryan was a native of Louisiana who as a youth moved to Texas with his family while it was still part of Mexico. Bryan then, as a 17-year-old, fought in the Texas War for Independence in 1835-36. Following the war, Byran became a successful cattle rancher, sheriff, and state legislator in Liberty County, Texas. A supporter of Southern Independence, he raised a company of infantry for the Confederate Army, called the Liberty Invincibles, which became part of the 5th Texas Infantry Regiment in the fabled Hood's Texas Brigade. He fought in many of the major battles of the Army of Northern Virginia and suffered two serious wounds. After he war he represented his county at the 1866 Texas Constitutional Convention and died later that year in October. [Lt. Col.
