Heiress, was wed to a trio of internationally famous billionaires. She was the daughter of the Greek shipping magnet, Stavros Livanos. As a young woman, she was courted by one of her father's shipping competitors, Aristotle S. Onassis. She eventually wed him; from this union was born a son, Alexander and a daughter, Christina. The marriage ended in divorce in 1960. She was next married to the British Marquess of Blandford, John Spencer-Churchill. This union lasted from October 23, 1961 until 1971. Her final marriage was to Greek shipping tycoon, Stavros Niarchos on October 21, 1971. Niarchos was the widower of Athina's older sister, the late-Eugenia (Livanos) Niarchos - who had died under a mysterious set of events. Following three years of marriage to Niarchos, Athina, at the age of 48, suffered from severe depression and was living in Paris, France. There were many rumors regarding the circumstances surrounding her sudden death. Autopsy results revealed Athina Niarchos had expired from pulmonary edema, which may have been brought about due to a dependency on barbituates.
