James “Louis” Anderson, age 90, of Levelland, and formerly of Floydada, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Floydada with Mike Holster, pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Levelland, officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. before the service at the First Baptist Church. Interment will be held following the service in the Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada. Funeral services are under the personal care of the Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
Louis was born July 12, 1928 in Floyd County to Albert and Agnes (Jackson) Anderson.
After graduating from Floydada High School, he married Ferne Stovall. They were married 68-1/2 years. They moved to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where Louis served in the U.S. Marine Corp. After his discharge from the military, they moved back to Texas.
Louis went to work for Gabriel’s Department Store in Spur. After moving to Floydada to raise their family, he was the manager of Beall’s Department Store for many years, after which he and Ferne opened their own business, Anderson’s Department Store in Floydada, and even expanded it to another store in Matador. Louis was very community oriented and served on the Floydada City Council, on the Caprock Hospital District Hospital board, was a member of the Lions Club and coached Little League for many years. One of the things Louis enjoyed were his horses and took many long rides; and was a charter member of the Floydada Riding Club. Louis was an avid Whirlwind fan. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Floydada for 60 years. After moving to Levelland in 2014, he was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church there. Louis and Ferne were part of a special group of life-long friends that shared many Friday nights playing dominos and enjoying each other’s company. He loved many things in life, but nothing can compare to the pride and love he had for his family. He wore the Floydada green proudly for his children and grandchildren. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his absolute pride and joy.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Ferne; his parents; his brothers, Roy, Floyd, William, Otis, and Edwin Anderson; his sisters, Estelle Watson and Nita Kastner.
He is survived by his two sons, Mike and Barbara Anderson, and Steve and Donna Anderson, all of Floydada; two daughters, Nancy and Larry Kirk, and Lisa and Tracy Rodgers, all of Levelland; nine grandchildren, Brady (Donna) Anderson, Monty (Ginger) Anderson, Cory (Cori) Kirk, Todd (Ashley) Anderson, Dusty (Tunde) Anderson, Robin (Dane) Sanders, Carly Rodgers, Kassi Rodgers, Shauna (Jason) Rodgers and Danny (Melanie) Crow; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Leon Anderson; sister, Dorothy Nixon, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
