Jean Mikell Bryan, age 89, formerly of Cleveland, Tennessee passed away on May 4th, 2019 in Collegedale, TN.

She was the daughter of the late Armond and Mary McCollum Mikell of Jesup, GA. She was preceded in death by sisters Carolyn M. Varnedoe of Brunswick, GA and Charlotte M. Gifford of Montgomery, AL

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Francis William “Bill” Bryan; daughters Pamela (Andrew) Grayson of Birmingham, AL and Francine Bryan of Chattanooga, TN; son Greg Bryan of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Bryan (Marissa) Grayson, Matthew (Katie) Grayson, Jonathan (Amy) Grayson, Amanda Claire (Zealan) Hoover, Alexander Bryan, and Veronica Bryan; four great-grandchildren; brother John (Hilda) Mikell of Zephyrhills, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

After having her family, she graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in elementary education and was employed by Bradley County as a first grade teacher at Taylor Elementary School until her retirement.

She greatly enjoyed cooking, and was famous among her family for her many delicious desserts. She was a lover of music, and spent many hours listening to Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, and the other classic male crooners of the '40s, '50s, and ‘60s.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
