Francis W. Ashworth, age 90, of Plymouth passed away Monday, Sept. 4, at Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility in Plymouth where he had been a resident for the past two weeks.
He was born on May 13, 1916 in Milwaukee, a son of the late George M. and Emma L. Raebel Ashworth. He attended Milwaukee Area Schools. On May 20, 1937 he married Ruth McCarty at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple resided in Milwaukee after their marriage, then moving to Sheboygan, Rhinelander and finally to Plymouth in 1996.
Francis was a manufacturing supervisor for the Hydraulic Tools Corp. in Sheboygan for twenty nine years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake.
Francis, endearingly referred to as "Ash" by friends and family had many interests. He spent much of his free time with his family "Up North" in Onieda County earlier in his life and eventually retired there with his wife, Ruth in the early 80s. He was a pillar of strength for his wife and children. Their home in northern Wisconsin served as an escape and a retreat for their vast family and good friends where they enjoyed the beauty of northern Wisconsin and their abundant love and kindness.
Other than his family, one of his greatest interests was music. He was a very talented accordionist and shared his talents at family gatherings as well as playing professionally in his younger years. Later in life he became known as Papa, The Old Accordion Man. Other interest included sports, particularly golf, pool, bowling, horseshoe and softball at all of which he was very proficient.
Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Ruth of Plymouth, his children: Jayne (Marty) Thomas of Elkhart Lake, Pat (Doug) Wrensch of Sheboygan, Bill (Lavonne) Ashworth of Plymouth, Tom (Deb) Ashworth of Sheboygan, Mike (Anita) Ashworth of Lodi; grandchildren: Keith Thomas of Mukwonago, WI, Jim (Nancy) Thomas of Elkhart Lake, Steve Thomas of Plymouth, Rick (Debbie) Thomas of Elkhart Lake, Debbie (Harry) Doughty of Dover, DE, Christine Newman of Sheboygan, Daune (Andy) Endreas of Sheboygan, Cheryl (Todd) Grall of Whitelaw, Scott (Jeannie) Ashworth of Plymouth, Kevin (Amy) Ashworth of Cleveland, Renee (Carl) Schweitzer of Hilbert, Jennifer (Brian) Tutt of Brooklyn Park, MN, Matt (Kristin) Ashworth of Coon Rapids, MN., Brett (Rachel) Ashworth of Sheboygan, Nick Ashworth of Sheboygan, Joe Ashworth of Coral Springs, FL., Amy Ashworth of Minneapolis, MN.; step grandchildren: Paula (Jim) Schwonek of Sheboygan Falls, Kim (Jerry) Benzschawel of Sheboygan Falls, Todd (Kathy) Wrensch of Pennsylvania, Tracy Janssen of Plymouth, Christy Janssen of Green Bay, Bob Lyons of Sheboygan, Ken Lyons of Sheboygan; 31 great grandchildren; two sisters: Helen Daniels of Milwaukee, June Schroeder of Milwaukee, one brother: Lester Ashworth of Mequon.
