Charles E. Peoples Jr., age 70, our beloved husband, cherished father, caring brother, loving son and wonderful Papa, passed away on April 24th, 2019.
All services will be held at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, Mo 64131. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 30th. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 1st. Burial following at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Charles was born on June 7th, 1948 in Independence, Mo. to his parents, Charles Sr. and W. Joyce (Wingate) Peoples. He was the oldest of three boys whom he loved dearly.
Charles or "Bud" and "Chuck" as he was affectionately known by, graduated from Van Horn High School in Independence, Missouri, in 1966. Chuck was a veteran that proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After his time in the military, he went on to earn his Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Rockhurst University.
At the age of 19, Chuck's life would change forever when he met the love of his life, Debbie Nash, while she was on a date with a friend of his. Their first date was a KU vs. MU football game where Chuck (a Missouri boy) would root on the Tigers, while Debbie (a Kansas girl) would be pulling for Kansas. From this moment, the two were inseparable and were married on September 5th, 1969. They were looking forward to celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. From this union, they had three wonderful children.
Chuck spent almost 30 years as an auditor for the Federal Government before taking an early retirement to be able to move back to Kansas City, the city he loved, to be close to his family. After retirement, he couldn't stay idle so he continued CPA work through this past tax season. He was always very active in his children's lives. He loved being at every sporting event he could and often traveled the country with his son's ice hockey team. From a young age, he loved athletics. He wrestled, played football and basketball and was boxer in the Army. He was always willing to give an insightful opinion about the current state of affairs for the Royals, Chiefs, Jayhawks or Tigers. He ended up switching rooting interests to the Kansas Jayhawks after making the mistake of taking his children to the 1988 Kansas National Championship parade, where the kids' allegiances to the Jayhawks were solidified. His support for his children was deeper than any affiliation to a team or school.
Chuck loved to have a cigar, drink a Diet Coke and enjoy a good book (or any book really). He was an avid reader that would use the information as ammunition for a good debate any chance he had. On a Saturday morning, you could find him at a local estate sale where he enjoyed collecting military memorabilia, trains and pretty much anything unique that perked his interest. If you were to run across him, he would be quick to tell a joke to make you smile and make a new friend. He had a great sense of humor. Above everything, Chuck loved his family. He was exceptionally loyal to those that were close to him and his final years were some of his best as he spent every minute he could with his grandchildren. He adored them more than anything.
