LANCASTER, SC ~

Mr. Dan Murphy, also known as “Bucket”, age 71, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 in York County.

He was born April 25, 1947 in Spartanburg, SC, a son of the late J.C. Murphy, Jr. and Frankie Beeks Murphy and was the extraordinarily devoted husband to Betty Powers Murphy.

He grew up on Erwin Farm and enjoyed playing softball with his many friends. Mr. Murphy loved sports, especially his Clemson Tigers, golfing, fishing and gospel music. He was crazy about his wife, daughters and grandchildren. Mr. Murphy was a member of Union Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and choir director for many years, however in recent years, he has attended Frontline Biker Church. Mr. Murphy was Mason for over 35 years.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Powers Murphy; two daughters, Kelly Criminger and her husband, Jeffrey, and Brandy Murphy and her fiancé, Dustin Deese, all of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Zack Murphy and his fiancé Alyssa Moree, Murphy Roach, Luke Roach, and Zane Catoe; two brothers, Jimmy Murphy and his wife, Barbara of Lancaster, and Harold Murphy and his wife, Brenda of Rock Hill; a sister, Rhoda Byrd of Lancaster; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Murphy of Florence, SC and Celeste Murphy of Camden, SC; and many special nieces and nephews.

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bobby Murphy and Billy Murphy; and a brother-in-law, Buck Byrd.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mr. Murphy will be 3:00 pm Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Union Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by Preacher Cotton Pate.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC and other times at the home. Also, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Frontline Biker Church Building Fund, 7728 Hwy. 341, Kershaw, SC 29067.
