Funeral service for Rev. Melvin Louis Gibson, 76, of Angleton (Bailey’s Prairie Community), will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 29309 CR 610, Angleton, Texas 77515 (McBeth Community) where Rev. Joseph L. Mayes is the pastor, Rev. Ricky McBride will be officiating and Dr. Walter Ray Gibson will be the eulogist. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery in West Columbia.
Visitation will also be on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 12:00 Noon until service time at the church. There will be no additional viewing.
On May 3, 1942, a baby boy named Melvin Louis Gibson was born in Oakwood, Texas to LaFred and Martha Gibson
He was raised in Oakwood, Texas and attended Dunbar Public School System. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. He later moved to Houston, Texas where he joined East Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr S.L Farris. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Fannie Jean McBeth on October 24, 1964. He later moved to Angleton, Texas where he joined the Blue Run Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev E.L Carroll where he was also ordained on August 29, 1980. He would later serve as pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church, West Columbia for many years. He faithfully served as associate minister at Charity Baptist Church of Houston, Texas under the leadership of the late Rev E.L Carroll
His career included working for Local 450, Operating Engineers until retirement. He would help others without hesitation and always had a kind word. As a hobby, he loved to barbeque, working in the yard and fixing old cars. Until recently, he would go to the local Walmart on a regular basis, sometimes twice a day. He loved to socialize with the employees and with anyone he ran into. The Walmart employees referred to him as “paw paw” or “Friend”. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents; LaFred and Martha Gibson, Wife; Fannie Jean Gibson, Brothers; LaFred Gibson, Jr and Willie Gibson. Sisters; Joyce Simmons and Caletha Shakir.
He leaves to cherish his memories, Children; Cheryl Ann McBeth, Stephen Forney (Shanta), Karl Gibson (Bernadette) Grandchildren; Meagan Mulcare (Rohan), Christopher Forney, Dezmond Holman, Karl Gibson, Jr, Jacob Forney, Joshua Forney, Seth Gibson & Hannah Forney. Great-Grand Children; Ro’Sean Mulcare, Joshua Mulcare, Jaden Mulcare & Camille Forney; Brother; Walter R Gibson, Sr.; Sister; Selena Thompson; Sister-in-laws; Bertha Trammell, Dottie Gibson, Mary Gibson and Opal Gibson as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Patrice Flannel, RN and Davita Dialysis for taking great care of him until the end.
