Mrs. Ruth R. Graves, age 100 of 2141 Ridgeway Road, Pittsville, Virginia departed this life on Saturday afternoon, April 7, 2018 at Chatham Health and Rehab Center.

Born May 5, 1917 in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late William F. Robertson and Josephine Haynes Robertson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Haywood J. Graves; two sons, Lawrence Graves and James “Jimbo” Graves; one sister, Lillie English and four brothers, Eska, David, Buford, and Lorenzo Robertson.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Burning Bush Holiness Church, Pittsville, Virginia, where she served as Youth Sunday School teacher and a teacher for the Sister's meeting. Mrs. Graves loved to fish, working in her flower garden and quilting in which she made for her children.

Those left to cherish her memories are one daughter, Janice Knox (Michael) of Danville, Virginia; six sons, Oscar Graves (Bertha), Jewel Graves (Loretta), Eugene Graves (Deborah), Bennie Graves, all of Pittsville, Virginia, Alvin Graves (Beatrice) and Timothy Graves, all of Oxon Hill, Maryland; one sister, Irene Robertson of Richmond, Virginia; thirty grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, two great-great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Graves will be conducted on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home by Bishop Gary Witcher. Interment will follow in the Burning Bush Holiness Church Cemetery, Pittsville, Virginia.
