Lichtenberg Rites Packed

All business establishments in Boyes Springs and virtually all firms in nearby Sonoma closed yesterday between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., out of respect to the memory of Rudolph Lichtenberg, veteran resort operator, who was shot to death last Saturday by Arthur Callaghan.

Memorial services were held in the First Congregational Church at Boyes Springs and the little edifice was packed with friends, neighbors and sports figures who had come to pay final tribute to the "Mayor of Boyes Springs."

Rev. J.O. Todd, pastor, conducted simple services. Oscar Larson, who had been associated with Lichtenberg for many years, introduced Bob Moir, regional director of the State Chamber of Commerce. Moir eulogized the deceased, praising him for his unselfish devotion to the area and his refusal to accept State positions because acceptance would have taken him away from his "beloved Sonoma."

Among baseball representatives at the services were Joe Devine, New York Yankee scout; Walter Mails, former Cleveland Indian and San Francisco Seals pitcher; Charles Graham and Francis J. (Lefty) O'Doul of the San Francisco Baseball club.

Private cremation was held in Santa Rosa yesterday morning.
