Br. Mario Kujawski was born John Edward Kujawski on February 6, 1939 in Milwaukee, WI., to John Kujawski and Marion Schneider Kujawski. He was subsequently baptized at St. Mary's in south Milwaukee and received his early education in Catholic schools. He took a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1964. On August 2, 1989, he took the religious name Mario and entered the Novitiate at the St. Joseph of Cupertino Friary, Arroyo Grande, CA. He made Temporal vows on August 2, 1990. Subsequently he took a Master of Theological Studies from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley in 1991. On August 1993 he began Pastoral care at St. Mary's Hospital, San Francisco, CA. On July 2, 1994 he took up Pastoral care for AIDS patients at the St. John XXII, Monterey, CA. He made Solemn Profession of Vows on August 15, 1994. Afterwards he began Ministry of Compassion to People with AIDS in the Diocese of Oakland while living at the Holy Family Friary in Castro Valley, CA., January 16, 1995. Later he took up residence at the St. Joseph of Cupertino Friary, Arroyo Grande, CA., on October 6, 1995. Subsequently took up residence at Northgate Terrace Apartments in Oakland, CA. while being de familia at the Holy Family Friary on October 31, 2001. After this Br. Mario took up residence at the Peter Claver House, San Francisco, CA., while being de familia at the St. Francis of Assisi Friary also in San Francisco, on February 3, 2004. On October 11, 2005 he returned to his beloved city of Milwaukee, WI. Afterwards he was assigned to take up residence at the Leland House, San Francisco, CA., while being de familia at the St. Francis of Assisi Friary also in San Francisco, on October 12, 2007. He moved to Maitri House, also in San Francisco a few months before his death, and he passed into eternal life there. His remains rest in the Province Cemetery, Arroyo Grande, CA.
