James A. Donahue, Jr., of Churchville, PA died on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, of an apparent cardiac episode at his at residence. He was 74.

Born in Philadelphia, Jim was the beloved husband of over 51 years to Linda A. Taraborrelli Donahue, son of the late James A. and Anna C. Logan Donahue and brother-in-law of the late Sharon Donahue.

Jim was a resident of Churchville for the past 45 years. He graduated from Most Blessed Sacrament Parochial School, and from West Catholic High School, class of 1963. He received his Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from LaSalle College in 1967, and continued his affiliation with his alma mater as an adjunct professor of business and management for many years. He earned his Masters in Engineering from Penn State University.

Jim was a long-time executive in the defense industry having spent over 20 years with the Department of the Army, where he was the Director of Research, Development and Engineering for Army munitions laboratories and NATO North American test centers. He later served as the director of Defense and Aerospace Products Group for ICI Americas, and worked most recently as a defense industry consultant and Congressional liaison for major industrial and governmental organizations.

Jim gave his time and talents not only to his professional career but to many community organizations and youth activities. He was a faithful communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Richboro, serving as a Lector, Usher and Adult Altar Server. An active member and former Grand Knight of the R.V. Hennessey Council # 6145, he was a 4th Degree Knight and member of the Archbishop Wood Assembly. He was a regular tennis player and an avid sports fan, especially of college basketball. He enthusiastically supported his grandchildren in their academic pursuits as well as attending their sporting, music and arts events. He even looked forward to attending operas with his wife.

He was president and long time board member of the Association of the Army, William Penn Chapter, and president and a member of the National Defense Industry Association Delaware Valley Chapter since 1970. He supported the U.S. Army through membership in the West Point Society and was awarded the Dieal-Pryor Service Award in 2018. He served on the board of the Aldie Counseling Center, Doylestown, including a term as Chair. He was a Life member of the Navy League of the U.S. He also served on several Commissioning Committees, organizing and helping secure funding for commissioning ceremonies for US Navy ships at Philadelphia’s Penns landing: USS John Murtha (LPD-26), USS Thomas Gates (CG-51) and the USS Somerset County (LPD-25).

Jim was active in his Northampton community; he was dubbed ’Mr. Basketball’, having founded and coached for many years. Active as a Northampton Township Republican Committeeman, he also served a term as Township Auditor. He always felt a need to give back to those less fortunate; he served on several boards including the West Catholic High School Alumni Scholarship Board (he received the scholarship in 1963), Holy Family Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor, and Sacred Heart Academy.

He will be sadly missed for his firm handshake, friendly smile and devotion to his family.

In addition to his beloved wife, Jim is survived by his dear children and their spouses James A. Donahue, III and his wife Karen, Lisa M. Donahue and her husband Kenneth Rose, III, Robert F. Donahue, Carolyn M. Jurbala and her husband Daryl, his 3 brothers and their wives Thomas F. X. Donahue and his wife Jackie, John M. Donahue and his wife Mary Murray, and Gerard J. Donahue. He is the doting grandfather of: James A. IV (Jake), Clay, Owen and Mary Kate Donahue, Brigid and Miriam Rose; Anna, Maren and Meghan Donahue, and Abigail and Marguerite (Daisie) Jurbala.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings, Sunday evening from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, and on Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church 654 Hatboro Rd. Richboro from 9:00am until his Funeral Mass 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Cheltenham.
