Helen is the forth child of Anthony and Maria Jane McElroy. She was born in Penola and like most of her relatives, was baptised at the St Andrews Presbyterian Church.
She completed schooling at Penola Primary and then stayed on the farm (Hawthorns) until she met & married Charles Edward William Soper.
They purchased 1000 acre farm at Langkoop in Victoria where they ran sheep and a few cattle.
They had 4 children: Twins Catherine Margaret & Elizabeth May, Lenore Marion and a son Edward William Houghton (Bill).
In 1950 they sold the property and purchased a smaller one at Cavendish which their son Bill ran for a number of years after they retired (where they moved to Hamilton).
Edith loved gardening and the bush. She was a judge at the small country towns shows.
Sadly Ediths life was cut short when she was a victim of a car accident whilst on holidays in Newcastle.
She was laid to rest in Hamilton Lawn Cemetery.
