NORTH - Alvin Burley Crockett, 88, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at home. He was born in Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 19, 1923.
A. B. was a retired Navy chief petty officer, serving in the Pacific during World War II on the USS Hornet CV8 which launched the Doolittle Raid. After the Hornet was sunk in the Battle of Santa Cruz, he returned to the states, where he met and married Ruth, his wife of 69 years. After his retirement he lived in Key West, Fla., owning and operating a motorcycle business for 54 years.
He was preceded in death by parents, Gilbert L. and Annie Smith Crockett; and brother, Lewis Crockett.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Crockett; two sons, Alvin B. Crockett Jr. and wife Diane, David P. Crockett; grandchildren, Kevin Crockett, Kelli Crockett and David P. Crockett Jr.; great-grandchild, Carson M. Crockett; sister, Susie Sadler; brothers, Morris Crockett and wife Barbara, David Crockett and wife Faye; sister-in-law, Kitty Crockett.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at their home, 117 Eagle Avenue, North, VA 23128.
Memorial services will be private.
