James "Jim" R. Bowman, Jr., age 81, of Manchester, Ohio died Monday, April 1 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on November 14, 1937 the son of the late James R. Bowman, Sr. and Helen (Holmes) Bowman, and was raised by the late Erma Reed. Jim was married to his loving wife, Wanda Raye (Shelton) Bowman and together they shared 65 years. He was a business owner and owned the 8 Ball Pool Hall and Bowman's Carry Out for over forty years. He and Wanda also were part owners of Moyer Winery for 18 years and he was the vinter of the winery for ten years. In his younger days he also worked at the Clover Leaf Dairy in Maysville.

Jim was an elder at the Manchester 1st Presbyterian Church and following its closing, he began attending the New Beginnings Church. He was also an Assistant Fire Chief in Manchester and was a member of the Matthews Carter Sons of American Legion Post 325. Jim also spent some time in the National Guard.

In Jim's free time he loved to golf, and even once got a hole in one! He also loved to travel to Las Vegas and do some gambling in his heyday. Jimmy loved his family and friends and would give anything he had to anyone who needed it.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jackie Holmes. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; sons, James "Rick" R. (Sherri) Bowman III of Manchester, Victor (Tonya) Bowman of Bentonville, and Alan W. Bowman of Manchester; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with one on the way; and siblings, Harry "Butch" W. (Rosalee) Bowman of Manchester, Lynn Matthews of Manchester, Jackie (Jerry) Smith of Manchester, Debbie Clinger of Manchester, Patty Byington of Manchester, and Joey Reed of West Union.

A funeral service for Jim will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Wilson Home for Funerals. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Manchester Cemetery. Rev. Dale Little will be officiating.
