Sir William Stephens (c.1640–1697) was a British Member of Parliament.
He was the first son of William Stephens and his wife Anne Redman (widow of Edward Harbert) and was educated at the Middle Temple (1656) and New College, Oxford (1658).
He was the Member of Parliament for Newport, Isle of Wight, from 1685 to 1687 and 1689 to 1695. He was knighted in 1684 and appointed Lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Wight for 1689–93.

A Memorial to William Stephens in St Mary's Church, Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight, reads:
Here under lyeth the body of Sr William Stephens, Knt
Some years Lieut Governor of this Island, who died Sept 26, 1697 in the 57th
year of his age.
On one side of him lay the remains of Dame Elizabeth His wife who dyed
Jan 12, 1696.
On the other side His brother Henry who dyed June 28, 1689.
Also near them lie the ashes of Hilary, Mary Ann, and Rachel their children who
dyed in their infancy.

He married Elizabeth, the daughter of Henry Hillary of Meerhay, Dorset, and had 2 sons and 5 daughters. Their son William was also an MP for Newport and later Secretary and President of the Colony of Georgia, USA
