Lois Briggs Jones, a 73-year-old resident of Garden Valley, Idaho, died Monday, June 4, 2007, at her home after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born April 9, 1934, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Therin and Ruthinda LaRue Jenkins Briggs.

She received her education in Syracuse, Utah, and Nampa, Idaho, graduating from Nampa High School. She continued her studies at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash., earning her bachelor's degree.

She married Dale Jones on Oct. 9, 1953, in Nampa. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Following marriage, she and Dale lived in California, Idaho, Arizona, Alaska, Wake Island, Washington, Hawaii and Saudi Arabia, prior to settling in Garden Valley, Idaho. Lois taught first grade in Moses Lake, Wash. for five years.

She enjoyed family history work, traveling, camping, reading, knitting and humanitarian work. She spent more than 50 years doing genealogical research. She made hundreds of newborn kits and baby quilts, and knitted hundreds of booties and infant caps for humanitarian needs. Lois was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served as a ward and stake Young Women's president, a Relief Society president, director of a Family History Center, and served with her sweetheart, Dale, as missionaries in the Alaska Anchorage mission from 1986-1988. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Terry (Edward) Evans of Rupert, Idaho, Jeanne (Brad) Peterson of East Wenatchee, Wash., and Amy (Michael) Jensen of Carson City, Nev.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Geraldine Robb, Kaye Stewart and Patricia Kerbs; and one grandchild.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2007, at the Garden Valley Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Friends may call from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
