Margaret Susan (Hall) Dennis, the mother of Ray Daniel Dennis, gives this account of her son's death: "Ray Daniel died prior to the birth of Doris [Doris Dennis Smith, his younger sister] when he was sixteen months of age. He died of pneumonia and whopping cough. Just before he passed away, we were rushed into a cyclone [tornado] cellar. Grandfather Hall [Margaret's father, Thaddeus Lebecous Hall] carried the sick baby, and while we were in the cellar waiting for the storm to pass, little Ray passed away in the arms of Grandfather Hall." The birth of the child is recorded in Minnesota Birth Certificates Index (Minnesota Historical Society). His death is recorded in the Iron Range Research Center obituary collection.
