Lois was a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and the Logan Chiropractic College. She was an active member of the Edwardsville Rotary Club where she received a Paul Harris Fellowship Award. In her early years she participated in 4H, Theater at Edwardsville High School and SIUE and worked at the Mississippi River Festival. Lois belonged to the Madco Dance Club in St. Louis. She was an active member of the Gamma Sigma Sigma Sorority and Zonta International. Lois was known to live her life to the fullest, celebrate big, and was always on to the next adventure, welcoming anyone who would join her.
Michael D. Ladd, age 79, of Edwardsville, Illinois, died tragically Monday, March 18, 2019, at this home. Michael was a general contractor having worked in Edwardsville for many years. Michael was born September 15, 1939, in Highland, Illinois, the son of the late Nicholas F. & Mary (Ballweg) Ladd. Mike married Lois Ann Buchta on April 20, 1976, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. Lois also died tragically on March 18, 2019. Michael is survived by 6 brothers, Nicholas Ladd, James (Viola “Vi”) Ladd, Gary (Joann) Ladd, Thomas (Sandi) Ladd, and Donald (Bonny) Ladd, Mark (Laurie) Ladd; 1 sister, Dolores “Dodie” Levi; and many nieces, nephews, & great nieces & nephews. Besides his parents Mike was preceded in death by 1 brother, Richard H. Ladd, a sister, Mary Louise Ladd, 2 sisters-in-law, Pat Ladd and Betty Ladd, and a brother-in-law, Gary Levi.
Mike was fun-loving and young at heart. He and Lois loved to travel and particularly enjoyed skiing and spending time at their retreat in Indiana. They enjoyed hosting exchange students and have kept in touch with them for more than 25 years. His generosity and willingness to help anyone will never be forgotten. Mike was also very active in the Edwardsville community and had received a Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Edwardsville Rotary Club.
A memorial visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2019, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26th at St. Boniface with The Very Reverend Jeffrey Goeckner officiating. Lois was cremated and an interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics, PBS Chanel 9, or the St. Boniface Capital Campaign.
