Dan was the son of Daniel Christian Blankenship & Louida Blake (1896-1989). He was the last remaining member of his family with siblings Alvis (1913-1982, Harry (1915-2010), French (1917-2002), Mildred (1920-1986), Florence (1930-2006), and Richard (1934-1995) all preceding him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane in 2011.Daniel Christian "Dan" Blankenship, age 95 years old, passed away Sunday, March 17th, 2019 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, NS.

Dan was the son of Daniel Christian Blankenship and Louida Blake. He was the last remaining member of his family and siblings Alvis, Harry, French, Mildred, Florence, and Richard all preceding him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane in 2011.

Born in Ohio, Blankenship joined the United States Army and fought through Europe in the Second World War. He would spend the rest of his life not talking much about what he saw there, other than that in Belgium two friends, one on either side of him, were killed. He had PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). He came home from the war ,met Jane, had 3 children and got into the construction industry.

Daniel Christian "Dan" Blankenship, Age 95 of Oak Island, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully, after a long,fulfilling and adventurous life, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater,Sunday, March 17,2019 of natural causes.
Many considered him The Oak Island Legend. A January 1965 issue of Reader's Digest brought Dan to Oak Island and he knew he would be instrumental in discovering the treasure. In 1970, he moved here full time to Oak Island and dedicated over 50 years searching,drilling, and digging, devoting the rest of his life and his own money to the Money Pit. Dan had a good contracting business in Florida, friends, and good reputation.
He "shucked"it all to come and make a gamble.
He is survived by his son, David(wife Garnette) daughter Linda, four grandchildren,six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Jane,daughter Janet Kirby, and son in law Billy Flowers.
He will be sadly missed by family,friends, and fans.

Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday March 24th,2019 in Mahone Funeral Home 32 Parish Street Mahone Bay. A funeral service will be held on Monday March 25th, 2019 in St. Mark's Anglican Church Martin's Point. Rev. Ron Barkhouse officiating.
