She was of an early pioneer family, being one of sixteen children, seven of whom preceded her in death. Her early childhood was spent in Abilene.
In 1892 she was united in marriage to John E. Fernsell, to which union were born three children, George Allen and Elmer Newel, twins, and Bertha Orlena. They also adopted Carol Jean. Elmer Newell died in infancy and George Allen in 1918.
In 1894 Mr. and Mrs. Fernsell moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and in 1906 they moved to Wamego, where they have since lived.
Alice Fernsell lived an exemplary life of love and devotion to her family and friends. Hers was a life of service, and many, both young and old, attest to her untiring and kindly efforts in their behalf, an angel of mercy to those in need.
She is survived by her husband, John E. Fernsell, and her daughters, Mrs. Wilford Sackrider, of Wamego, and Mrs. Wiley Poleson of Kansas City, Missouri; eight brothers and sisters, Mrs. Mary Rachel Lacy, Mrs. Cynthia Harris and J.W. Thompson of McLouth, Kansas; A. J. "Jack" Thompson and B. F. "Frank" Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Bertha Burgoyne of Eden, Idaho, Robert L. Thompson of Winchester, Kansas, and Grover C. Thompson of Pendleton, Oregon; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a host of friends and acquaintances.
Funeral services were held in the Stewart Funeral Home at Wamego Sunday, March 5th, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. W. A. Holladay of the Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Wamego Cemetery.
