Robert was born on Dec. 8, 1930, to James Baker Sr. and Lillie (Cason) Baker in Burkett, Coleman County. Bob was one of 18 children. Bob graduated from Coleman High School in 1948; he joined the National Guard right out high school. In 1950, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served for six years.
Bob married the love of his life, Annie Lura McQueen, on Jan. 15, 1951, in Coleman. He was district measurement superintendent in Bay City for Valero Transmission. After his retirement in 1989, they moved to Brownwood.
He was a HAM radio operator and belonged to the HAM Club and Brownwood Amateur Radio Club. Bob was also a Mason, he served at Indian Creek Lodge as Master and past Commander, belonging to all the Masonic Lodges for 65 years. He was a member of Eastern Star and served as a worthy patron at Coleman and Brownwood. Bob was a Christian man with a Baptist background. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, and provider for his family.
Bob was survived by his wife of 68 years, three children, four grandsons, one brother, one sister, and by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Lillie Baker; one son, Robert A. Baker; and most of his siblings.
