Mary Jane Bergsma, 100, of Lafayette, passed away at 5:02 pm, Saturday, April 14, 2018 at her residence while surrounded by family.
Born January 24, 1918 in Delphi, IN, she was the daughter of Alfred Augustus “Gus” Briney and Mary Isabell (Roach) Briney. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in Monticello and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lafayette she worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital for over 40 years.
She was married to Eugene Harold Bergsma for 51 years; he preceded her in death on November 21, 1993. Mary Jane enjoyed reading, being outdoors, working in the yard, birdwatching, mushroom hunting, knitting and crocheting.
