Larry Michael “Mike” Stout departed this life on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the age of 70.

He was born to parents Paul William and Azlee (Grigg) Stout on January 4, 1949 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Mike married Sharon Ann (Freeman) Stout on March 20, 1968. Their two children are Leslie A (Stout) McCroddan and Samuel C Stout. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 20, 2018.

A twelve year US Veteran, Mike served in the Army from 1969 to 1971 and Airforce from 1971 to 1980.

He became an ordained Christian minister in 1977 and graduated from International Bible College in San Antonio, TX in 1984 with a degree in theology.

Mike served as a children’s pastor, pastor, and teacher during the past thirty years. He taught in both Christian and public schools, K-12th grade. He earned his master’s degree in music education from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX in 2003.

As a children’s pastor, he was known as “Safari Mike,” for the ministry theme, “It’s a Jungle Out There” and the iconic safari hat he wore. He traveled to minister with his wife and two children in several churches including mission trips to Mexico, teaching children about the Bible and God’s love for them.

Mike loved his family, loved ministering to children (“play with them and pray with them”), loved music (brass and bass instruments were his specialty along with playing his concertina), loved Texas history, and above all loved the Lord. He was always focused on serving others and serving the Lord.

In his own words a few years ago he wrote, “I had everything I needed. I’ve done what I wanted to do. I did everything – experiences, led a full life – God provided. The gospel message [is life, hope, grace, and peace].”

Mike is survived by his wife Sharon Stout; daughter Leslie and husband Stephen McCroddan; son Samuel and wife Mary Ann Stout; step-daughter Kelly Conley; grandchildren Kristina and Samantha Stout; step-grandchildren Sara and Nicole Conley; brothers Stewart Stout and John (Judi) Stout, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and long-time friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Azlee Stout and oldest brother Bradley David Stout who departed this life November 15, 2018 at age 82.

A memorial service will be held at the home of his wife, Sharon Stout, in Leander, Texas on Saturday February 23, 2019 from 10am to 2pm. Call 512-267-2975 for details. A graveside service with flag folding and taps for the cremation burial will be held on Friday March 8, 2019 at 2pm at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
