Jane Marée (Spensley) Miller passed away suddenly and peacefully on March 7, 2019 at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living Community in Longmont. She had been a resident there for two years.
Jane was born in Dubuque, Iowa on January 14, 1937, the eldest child of Harker and Ruth (Moffatt) Spensley. Shortly thereafter, the young family moved to Denver where Jane was raised with her two younger sisters, Margo and Karen.
She graduated from South High School and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. She was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. While at CU she met her future husband, John Gary Miller in the Young Republicans Club. He was studying law. Jane was proud of the fact that she was Chairwoman of Young Republicans for all of the colleges in Colorado during the election year and brought the fundraising drive over 100% of their goal. She was also a finalist for Miss National Young Republican in 1959.
Jane and her husband were married on March 25, 1960 in Denver. After marrying they moved to Longmont where John practiced law and became a judge.
They welcomed their only child (adopted son), Benjamin Evans Miller II in 1968. Jane and her husband were very active in Longmont volunteering for the Republican Party, the United Way, Pumpkin Pie days AND building Hilltop Homes. Jane and John were divorced in 1983.
Jane was self-sufficient and had several jobs where she used her talents as a writer. One she was most proud of was working in Contract Administration at Johnson Engineering. The company was involved in the aerospace program.
Jane was an artist and a writer and a collector of beautiful things. She enjoyed eating out and met many Longmont residents at Aunt Alice’s, Perkins, and Goodfellows.
Jane’s good friend of 18 years, William Schifano Manning, whom she loved and cared for passed away in 2009.
