FREDA A. BARNETT — ROANOKE — Freda Ann Galloway Barnett, 60, of Roanoke, VA, departed this life on Sunday, March 3, 2019.

Freda was born in Eden, North Carolina to Fred Galloway and the late Justine (Hampton) Galloway.

In 1971, they relocated from Eden to Roanoke, Virginia. Soon after relocating, she met Jeffery Barnett, at William Ruffner Middle School and have been together ever since. Freda and Jeffery were married for 42 years and from this union have three children, Jeff Jr., Tiffany, and Crystal. She graduated from William Fleming High School, Class of 1976, and attended St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina. Freda has held employment in various sectors from Thalhimers and Hecht's Department Stores as a seamstress, Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company, Wachovia/Wells Fargo, and Martin Focus Group Center.
Freda was a true example of a Christian mother and wife, installing strong values in her children. However, she found true joy 11 years ago when she went from being a mother to a "Memaw". She was able to stop working so she could spend more time with her grandsons, Marvin III and Justin. She loved picking them up from school, fixing after school snacks and pre-game meals, and being front and center at all their games. In December, she welcomed a granddaughter, Grace, and loved sitting in the rocking chair humming songs to her.
She enjoyed sewing, bowling, family Steeler parties, going to the movies, the beach, weekend girl trips with her sisters and daughters, sitting on the porch watching wildlife, and more than anything spending time with her family.
Freda was baptized at a young age at Rising Star Baptist Church in Eden, North Carolina. Upon moving to Roanoke, she joined High Street Baptist Church, where she served on various committees.

Those left to cherish her memory and legacy are her husband, Jeffery Barnett Sr.; children, Jeffery Barnett Jr.; Tiffany (Reginald) Turner, and Crystal Barnett; grandchildren, Marvin Fields III, Justin Barnett, Grace Turner, and Eua'Zare Barnett; father, Frederick Galloway; siblings, Faith Galloway and Felicia Galloway; special cousins, Dwight Galloway, Peggy Crumwell, Ramona (Ruben) Martin, Ann Belvin, and Carol (Andy) Wills; in-laws, Fred and Louise Hairston; sisters-in-law, Tracey Jones, Lisa Barnett, Andrea Barnett, Donna Hinton, Tammy Wright, and Mary White; niece and nephews, Mandela Jones, Mugabe Jones, Akilah Jones, and D'vonte Barnett; special friends, Shawn Moore, Sandi Davis, and Beverly Smith; a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held noon Saturday, March 9, 2019, at High Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call on Friday afternoon for viewing at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.
