GALENA, KANSAS: Barbara Jean Wade, age 89, passed away at 6:47 am Sunday March 3, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.
Barbara was born December 26, 1929 in Wichita, KS. Her parents were Thomas Lee and Edith Berene (Holden) Armer. She had lived in Galena most of her life.
She graduated from Galena High School with the Class of 1947.
Several years ago she worked at Wade’s Café, Neosho. MO. She later worked in Central Supply at St John’s Hospital, Joplin, MO, a job she held over 30 years. She last worked at Pickle Jean’s Café in Galena. Most of all she was the best home maker.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Galena. KS where she was in the WMA. She was also a member of Red Hat Club, and the Galena Woman’s Club. She loved to collect dolls, crochet, and enjoyed cooking. She enjoyed listening to music, being hostess at family dinners at her home, collecting family pictures, and was a story teller.
Barbara was married to Clinton LeRoy Wade on May 10, 1947 in Galena, He passed away February 21, 1979.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, Alan Wade, Robert Wade; one sister, Shirley Armer, and 5 brothers, Arvel, Urel, Marshall, Merle, and Tommy.
Surviving are two sons, Tom Wade (wife, Lesa), and Alvin Wade (wife, Gail), all of Galena; two daughters, Aleta Sanders (husband, Danny), Galena, and Rebecca Stillions (husband, Bill), Joplin, MO; one sister, Margie Titus, Galena; 16 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, March 7, 2019 at First Baptist Church, Galena, KS. Pastor Jeff Swart will officiate. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, KS.
The family will receive friends from 6:00- 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
