Papa was born in Italy and came to the USA in the early part of the 1900's. He and Mama settled in Brooklyn, NY where they raised their 8 children. Papa had registered for the draft for World War I, but I don't think he ever served. He worked many odd jobs during his life, including a suit presser in a clothing store in Brooklyn. Things were tough financially, but Papa and Mama always managed to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Papa also grew grapes and made his own wine. Today, his descendants in Italy still have commercial wineries under the Terenzi name.
Papa died in 1965 from cancer. The story I was told was that on the day before he died, he saw me take my first steps. I walked across the room to him and he picked me up and gave me a kiss.
