Loving sister and aunt. Edith was born Sept. 6, 1912, in Plainview, Texas. She passed away June 16, 2009, peacefully, at home in Glen Rose, Texas. Preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Long, four sisters, and two brothers, she is survived by her sister, Mrs. Dene Fite of Glen Rose, four nieces and three nephews, and 26 great-nieces and great-nephews and their children. Edith graduated from Wichita Falls High School, then moved to Dallas in 1934. In 1976, she retired from the Federal Reserve Bank, after 42 years of service. She was active in the Methodist Women's Guild, Business Class, and Yeats Class of Tyler Street United Methodist Church until the last few years of her life. She was also a member of the Oak Cliff Amity Book Review Club, a 25 year member of the Red Cross Auxiliary, serving food to traveling troops during WWII and later assisting at the V.A. Hospital, and a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, General Levi Casey Chapter. Although she did not have children, she loved, taught and nurtured her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She was a role model, inspiring all who knew her with her commitment to family, church, and country. The family expresses gratitude to her caregivers who have provided loving and respectful care for her during the last three years of her life. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
