Nellie J. (Field) Snowden, 90, Anderson, passed away peacefully June 2, 2007, at Saint John's Medical Center after a sudden illness.

She was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Greensburg, Kan., and lived in Anderson for more than 50 years, in Hutchinson, Kan., for 25 years. She had also resided in Indianapolis, Middletown, Ohio, and Bessemer, Ala.

She was an ordained minister and served several churches in Ohio, Alabama and Indianapolis with her husband. She served as national president of Women of the Church of God, Inc. for 10 years, and as executive secretary treasurer for 11 years. During her tenure the first World Hunger Project was established and the first National Convention of Church of God Women was held in Louisville, Ky., in 1977. She retired in 1981 after 21 years of service. She was a member of Park Place Church of God, Alcott Club, member of the National Board of Church Women United for 10 years, attended Anderson University from 1941-44 and was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree in 1973.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Roscoe Snowden, whom she married June 26, 1945, in Indianapolis; a son, Dr. Joe R. (wife, Jane) Snowden of Clearwater, Fla.; one granddaughter, Meghan Brooke Snowden; three stepgrandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Field of Hutchinson, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar E. and Sarah Ann (Holden) Field; three brothers, Wayne and Herbert Field, died during wartime, and Eugene H. Field.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Park Place Church of God with Drs. Arlo Newell and David Coolidge officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service and one hour before service Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Park Place Church of God or Women of the Church of God Inc. Endowment Fund.
