ANDERSON — Dr. Roscoe Snowden, 90, Anderson, died Aug. 22, 2009, at his home in Anderson. He was born Dec. 21, 1918, in Boyle County, Ky., the son of Charles and Bertie (Fleming) Snowden, and lived in Anderson for over 50 years. Roscoe was a native of Louisville, Ky. He served as a pastor for 26 years in North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama and Indiana. His last pastorate was East Side Church of God in Anderson for 13 1/2 years. He served as Director of Church Services with the Executive Council of the Church of God for 17 years. Following retirement, he worked part time for the World Service Division of the Church of God, conducting Wills and Estate Planning Seminars. He attended Anderson University, Morehead State University and Ball State University. He received Honorary Doctorate Degrees from both Mid-America Bible College and Warner Southern College. Memberships include Park Place Church of God, where he was a member and teacher of Pathways Sunday School Class, American Association of Statisticians, American Association of Pastoral Counselors, General Commission of Chaplains-Washington, D.C., Kiwanis Club, and YMCA. He was a writer and contributed to Vital Christianity, Christian Leadership, Curriculum materials for the Church of God, and Anderson University School of Theology, Turkey Call and Turkey Hunter Magazine. He enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Joe R. Snowden (wife, Jane) of Anderson; a granddaughter, Meghan Brooke Ostrander (husband, Mark) of Boston, Mass.; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Field of Hutchinson, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Jane (Field) Snowden, on June 2, 2007. He married Nellie on June 26, 1945, in Middletown, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Adams and Ruth Watts.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Park Place Church of God with Drs. Donald Johnson and Arlo Newell officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson University School of Theology Blackwelder Scholarship Fund.
