Phyllis Elaine Simmons, formerly of Conrad, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2019 at Westminster Woods on Julington Creek where she lived in Florida.

A service was held in her honor there, and she will be laid to rest in the Conrad Cemetery at a later date.

Phyllis was born May 28, 1928 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Henry A. and Bernice J. (Rightmeyer) Rasmussen. She grew up on a farm east of Green Mountain and graduated from the Green Mountain High School in 1945. In 1947, she married Dale G. Simmons from Conrad, IA in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, where he served with the Army Signal Corps during World War ll. When he was discharged, they returned to Conrad where they farmed west of town for 40 years. They had 3 children - Ronald, Steven, and Leann. Despite being a busy farm wife, Phyllis found time to grow a huge garden, play den mother for Pack 107 Cub Scouts, and participate in the St Elmo #398 Order of the Eastern Star, the Village and Vale, and the Treasure Seekers clubs. She also had her own interior painting and refinishing business, and later worked at the Conrad Antique Store and painted folk art figures for Wolf Creek collectibles. She and Dale were avid ‘antiquers’ for over 20 years, collecting Keen Kutter, Heisey glassware and gray graniteware among many other things. They retired from farming in 1987 and moved to the beautiful Gulf Coast of Navarre, Florida in 1991. She was an active volunteer ambassador for the Navarre Chamber of Commerce from 1992 to 2013. In 2014, she moved to Jacksonville, FL to be near her daughter. Phyllis will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her love of decorating for every holiday, listening to country music, and doing puzzles.

She is survived by two sisters: Donna Hinton of Sedro Woolley , WA and Karen Dolge of Cullowhee, NC; her son, Ron of Toledo, IA; her daughter, Leann (Eric) Arndt of Jacksonville, FL; a granddaughter Jessica Simmons of Toledo, IA; a step-grandson Jason Bracy; a great grandson Jacob, and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her son, Steven, her parents, her brother Richard W. Rasmussen, and her sister Mary Helen Coddington.
