According to "Haddox-Skelton Heritage" by Ruth Haddox Harrington, 2005, pg. 416-417:

Edward Mercer, son of Aaron & Elizabeth (Carr) Mercer was b. 4 March 1769, in Frederick Co., VA, m.#1 unknown who died before 14 July 1807, m.#2 14 July 1807 Elizabeth Williams in Greene Co., OH, and he died 5 Feb 1837 in Greene Co., OH. Buried with wife Elizabeth in Mercer Cemetery, south of Xenia, OH on Rte. 380 in Spring Valley Twp. Edward was a soldier in the War of 1812. He was named to receive 1/6th of his uncle Edward Mercer's estate, after the death of Uncle Edward's wife, Mary Dinah (Ste(i)er) Mercer.

"Jonathan and his brother, Edward, "with all their worldly goods in the paniers of a single pack horse, kept on up the Mad River eight miles and located Mercer's Station on land that is now Bath Township, Greene County. They were the first two whites to settle in the territory now within the boundaries of that county. They were bothered by the Indians there." [History of Montgomery County, OH(1882), by W. H.
