Opal Mae Campbell of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma was born August 7, 1934 in Stratford, Oklahoma to Samuel Loyde and Lora (Jones) Wood. She was peacefully reunited with our Lord and Savior on February 24th, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old.
She was raised in rural Stratford, Oklahoma and attended Yeager Community School house and graduated from Stratford High School in 1952. She attended college at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. On December 22, 1954 she married Kenneth Doyle Campbell Sr. at the Paul and Pine Church of Christ in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Kenneth and Opal were blessed to share 50+ years of marriage together.

As a young woman, Opal began her career in Garvin County as an abstractor under Judge Haskell Paul. In 1974 she accepted a position with the State of Oklahoma as a Social Worker in Garvin County where she specialized in nursing home and geriatric care financial assistance. Opal loved her clients and co-workers, many of whom are still considered family. She retired after 30+ years with honors from the department.

Opal adored her family and friends. She was one of the most genuine and kind natured spirits. She was a true lover of the farm and ranching life enjoyed by her family over many generations, especially during calving season. An avid genealogist and family historian, Opal diligently researched and documented each detail, of each family member so that we all could share in the stories. She was a meticulous seamstress, a true green thumb gardener, and a collector of tea sets and recipe books. If asked however, she would say her favorite of all time spent was that with her six grandchildren. From ballgames to FFA stock shows, to dance recitals, to long weekends on the farm, the grands were Opal and Kenneth’s true heaven on earth.

She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Loyde and Lora (Jones) Wood, her beloved husband, Kenneth D. Campbell Sr., brothers Wallace Wood, J.B. Wood and Sammie Wood, and sisters Juanita Wood Nabors and Lora Etta Wood Drake.
