Mr. Burin B. Lane, Sr., 84, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Friday, April 10, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Lane was born in Scott County on February 2, 1925 to the late Ira and Nora Dockery Lane. He loved any outdoor activity, hunting, fishing, farming and working in his garden. He loved church, his family and his dog and best friend, C-Doodle. He attended Red Hill Freewill Independent Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeffery Gibson, Jr.; sons-in-law, Midge McConnell and Jeff Gibson, sister, Nellie Ruth "Jan" Ingle and brothers, Fred and Edward Lane.

He is survived by his wife, Reba Lane, Ft. Blackmore, VA; daughters, Dana McConnell, Kingsport, TN, Linda Starnes and husband, Sonny, Gate City, VA, Debbie Duncan and husband, Frank, Kingsport, TN, Jenny Stone and husband, Charlie, Gate City, VA, and Karen Parson and husband, Jeff, Mt. Carmel, TN; son, Junior Lane, Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren, Becky Fields and husband, Kevin, Kingsport, TN, Matthew McConnell, Kingsport, TN, Brandon McConnell (who was like his son) and wife, Jennifer, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Steven Starnes, Kingsport, TN, Rick Peak, Jr., Kingsport, TN, Brandi Gibson, Kingsport, TN, B.J. Lane and wife, Nichole, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Candi Harker and husband, Orris, Kingsport, TN, great grandchildren, Connor Lane, Jordan Harker, Duncan Harker, Hope Farmer and Christian Farmer,along with two expectant great grandchildren, Baby McConnell due in April and one due in August; sisters, Lucille Lawson and husband, Charles, Gate City, VA and Ethel Frasier, Ft. Blackmore, VA; brothers, James Lane and wife, Gracie, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Bill Lane, Ft. Blackmore, VA; his very special friends, Rhonda Bright and her children, Josh and Caleb, Katie Jones, Harlis Thomas, Chris Farmer and Barbara Meade, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, April 12, 2009 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 13, 2009 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Vernon McDavid officiating. A Eulogy will be given by his son-in-law, Pastor Sonny Starnes. Tim Baldwin and April McNew will provide the music.

Burial will follow the service in the Lane Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Jim Lane, Jeff Lane, Rick Peak, Jr., Matthew McConnell, B.J. Lane, Jamie Butler and Larry Dockery will serve as pallbearers. Bruce Graham, Fred Walker, Gerald Fraysier, Tom Gilliam, Charles Lawson, Bob Fraysier, Jim Coley and J.C. Fraysier will serve as honorary pallbearers.
