GRANITE FALLS Clarence "Don" Fare, also known as "Sarge," 91, of Granite Falls, moved into life everlasting Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, at Carolina Rehab in Burke County. He was born March 28, 1927, son of the late William and Elizabeth Fare. Mr. Fare was a veteran of World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was a retired Master Sgt. with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Clover Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Howerton Fare, mother of Andrea; second wife, Doris Annas Fare; three sisters, Margie Honeycutt, Willie Sumlin, Evelyn Watson; and one brother, Joe Fare. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 15 years, Joyce Sides Fare; daughter, the Rev. Dr. Andrea Smith (Scott) of Denver, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Andrew Smith of Ithaca, N.Y. and Layne Smith of Boone. Mr. Fare is survived by three sisters, Margie Honeycutt of Asheville, Willie Sumlin of Lenoir and Evelyn Watson of Hudson; and one brother, Joe Far of Fayetteville. The graveside service will be held Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m., at Blue Ridge Memorial Park, officiated by the Rev. Keith Childers. Military honors will be rendered by DAV Chapter 6 of Caldwell County and DAV Chapter 84 of Taylorsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to "Inspire Our Children" P.O.
