Mrs. McKirgan passes
Jennie Leona McKirgan was born at Victoria, 27 August 1884, being at the time of her death, 38 years, 5 months and 10 days of age. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel S. Collinson of Victoria township, Illinois and was united in marriage to John Howard McKirgan 24 March 1904. To this union was born nine children, Marvin, Dan, Vera, Lowell, Margaret, John, Howard Jr., Julie, Samuel, Eugene and Jennie Leona. All survive the mother except Samuel Eugene who passed away during the summer of 1922. Other near surviving relatives are her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel S. Collinson, one brother, Marvin Grimm, of LaFayette, Illinois and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Hager, of Galva, Illinois; Mrs. Frank Norberg of Salem, Iowa; Mrs. John Malm of Odebodt, Iowa. These together with a large number of other relatives and friends are left to mourn one who they "loved and lost awhile." Mrs. McKirgan was a woman of high ideas, who endeavored by precept and example to live worthy of her highest thoughts. She was faithful and devoted wife, and mother ever thinking of the well being and good of others rather than herself. Funeral services were held from the late home on Friday afternoon, conducted by Reverend Obensahin, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church at Galva and Reverend A.O. Jones, of Victoria. The wealth of beautiful floweres was a mute testimonial of the love and esteem in which the deceased was held, and carried their message of sympathy to those left behind. The casket bearers were Irvin Johnson, Harry Thomas, Bert Thomas, Jesse Melliravey, Hanford Pierce and Clarence Haxton. The service of song was rendered by Mrs. Fred Mink and Mrs. Hugh Baird, of Galva, who sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul: and "Some Day We'll Understand." Among those from out of town were Mrs. John McKirgan, Dan and Aleck McKirgan and John and Ben McAllister, of Magnolia. Interment was in the LaFayette cemetery besides the little son who had gone before. The sympathy of the entire community is with Mr. McKirgan and his family in their loss.
