ABRAHAMSON, Dorothy Bergesen Age 84 of Brentwood, TN, died on October 9, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was born in Fargo, ND on October 7, 1926 to Albert R. Bergesen and Blanche L. (Darling) Bergesen. She grew up in Fargo and Detroit Lakes, MN with her sisters, Rebecca and Karen. She was predeceased by her parents; her stepmother, Anne; her sister, Rebecca and a younger sister, Ruth. After attending Iowa State University for two years and the University of North Dakota, from which she received a degree in social work, she married Earl Abrahamson in August of 1948. They spent 3 years at the University of Kansas and then moved to Wilmington, DE where Earl worked for the DuPont Company for 34 years, after which they spent a portion of their time in Bethany Beach, DE. She is survived by her husband of 62 years; her sister, Karen Stangebye of Roswell, NM; her daughters, Kris Biesinger (Thomas) of Athens, GA, Jill Leyrer (Donal) of Brentwood, TN and Kirsten Abrahamson of Summerville, SC; and 7 grandchildren, Tait and Brett Biesinger, Kelsey, Keegan and Colleen Leyrer, and Sylvia and Jack Robinson. Dorothy was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who placed family first in her life. She was very creative with an ability to achieve perfect balance in virtually anything she pursued, whether it be sewing, sculpture, painting, interior design or just cooking a meal. She was the ultimate problem solver with an extraordinary ability to make things better. She volunteered at the "Next to New Shop" and worked on various committees at The Skating Club of Wilmington. She created a business to sell skating apparel and a fund to provide competition scholarships. She was a member of AAUW, The Skating Club of Wilmington, The Restauration Lodge of the Sons of Norway, and St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wilmington.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 908 Murfreesboro Road, Franklin, TN where she will be interred in the new Columbarium.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Somerfield Health Center for their loving care and compassion during her lengthy illness.
