Mr. Allen D. Austin Jr., 72, of 2907 Appling Way died Thursday in Duke Medical Center.
A native of Winchendon, MA, he was the son of the late Ethel Mae Clark and Allen D. Austin Sr. He served in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Austin had been a resident of Durham since 1946 and retired from Duke Medical Center after 16 years of service. He also worked at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service for 27 years. An avid woodworker, his crafts are displayed in many area homes. He was a member and Past President of the Westwood Westerner Club. He was a member of Angier Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Cabin Class.
Surviving are his wife, Eunice Ferrell Austin; one daughter, Sandra Austin McFall of Durham; two sons, Tom Austin of Durham and Allen D. Austin III of Raleigh; a granddaughter, Jennifer Austin of Durham; two sisters, Alice A. Phillips of Elmira, NY and Frances A. Cromwell of Westport, ME.
The funeral will be 2 PM Sunday from Angier Avenue Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. Kevin Byers and the Rev. Crate H. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service from 7-9 PM today.
