Stanley J. Young, 71, of Brookston, passed away at 2:22 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at IU White Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
He was born March 25, 1947 in Lafayette to the late James E. and Rosemary (Allie) Young. He attended Brookston High School.
When he was 18, Stan was drafted into the United States Army. He had six weeks of training at Ft. Knox and then nine more at Ft. Eustis, VA before heading to Vietnam where he spent twelve months at Cam Rahn Bay. He was honorably discharged in June of 1968.
Stan worked in laundry services at the Indiana Veterans Home for over 30 years retiring in 2009. Prior to that he worked for C&D Battery in Brookston.
Stan enjoyed fishing and camping, reading westerns and cross-word puzzles. He was an avid NASCAR fan of Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhart Sr. and enjoyed watching Purdue basketball and Chicago Cubs baseball. Stan loved spending time with his family, especially his mother.
Surviving are his sisters, Sharon (Jerry) Hiner, Vickie Richardson and Deb Mikels all of Brookston. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Tammy, Jenny, Brett, Shelley, Leslie, Tony, Todd, Tyler, Jodi, Jackie, Joey, Kurtis, Caleb and Keifer and his 34 great-nieces & nephews and 26 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death with his parents is a sister, Connie Weston; a brother-in-law, Mick Mikels; a great-niece, Nicole Hamilton and a great-great-nephew, Isaac Michael Lee.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Funeral service 10 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2019 also at the funeral home; Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to officiate. Interment to follow in Brookston IOOF Cemetery.
