Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Gaddis Smithson of Samburg died Monday afternoon at 5:15 at the long term unit of Obion County General Hospital where she had been a patient for the past 7 years. She was 78. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at White-Ranson Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. George Presslar officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetary near Hornbeak.

Mrs. Smithson was born in Obion County 2/8/1901, daughter of the late Charlie Gaddis and Mrs Dora Reed Gaddis. She was a member of the Samburg Baptist Church. Her husband, Alvie Lee Smithson, whom she married in 1915, died in 1975.
She leaves 4 daughters, Mrs. Claude Alexander of Union city, Mrs. James Alexander and Mrs. Gene Eddlemon, both of Plymouth, Michigan., and Mrs. Wilma Joan Howard of Chicago, Illinois, 3 sons, Hubert Smithson and Alfred Smithson, both of Plymouth, Michigan, and Alvie Lee Smithson, Jr. of Chicago; 1 brother Robert Gaddis of Union City; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
