Hubert Edward Smithson, 83, of Union City died 11:00 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Union City. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens. Brother Eddie Mallonee will officiate.

Mr. Smithson was born September 21, 1925 in Obion County, son of the late Alvie Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Gaddis) Smithson. He married the former Virginia Osterhout July 1, 1948. She survives. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Lavonia, Michigan after 25 years of service and served in the United States Navy during World War II.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and his son-in-law, Cheryl and Greg Green of Chelsea, Michigan and Linda Mora of Northfield, New Jersey; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Smithson of Fenton, Michigan; three sisters, Bonnie Morris of Memphis, Narvella Eddlemon of Lavonia, Michigan and Joan Howard of Hornbeak; one brother, Alfred Ray Smithson of Plymouth, Michigan; five grandchildren, Kimberly Hart and Nichole Smithson both of Fenton, Michigan, Rachel Green of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Zachary Green of Chelsea, Michigan and Joseph Mora serving with the United States Navy in Georgia and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Smithson and Alvie “Deak” Smithson, Jr..

The family will receive friends in the Rosewood Room of Edmaiston- Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pallbearers to serve will be Ovell Alexander, Guy Hogg, Zachary Green, Norvel Cranford, James Yates and Wayne Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers to serve will be Golden Mathis, Dennis Montgomery and Cletus Montgomery.
