Franklin J. Holmes, age 85, of Sterling, died Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, NV.
Frank was born May 12, 1933 in Geneseo the son of Ora and Mildred (Wright) Holmes. He served in the US Army as an MP from 1953-1955. Frank married Arlene Deets on April 8, 1956 in Sterling. He had farmed; owned the former County Kitchen Restaurant; worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections; the Illinois Department of Transportation and he had worked as a custodian for the Illinois National Guard at the Rock Falls Amory.
He was a member of the East Jordan United Methodist Church in Sterling.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Holmes of Sterling; his three children: Dennis (Sue) Holmes of Mukwanago, WI, Penny (Ronald) Bollivar of Wataga, IL and Michael (Lisa) Holmes of Sterling; his 7 grandchildren: Zachary (Lauren) Holmes, Krissy Holmes, Jason Bollivar, Jenna (Neil) McCrery, Kara Sue Bollivar, Tess (Joey) Gramann and Tyler Holmes; 6 great grandchildren: Rowen Holmes, Reid Holmes, Stella Holmes, David McCrery, Zoey McCrery and Wrenn Gramann; his brother Bill Holmes of TX; and his sisters Charlene Johnson and Irene Garner of TX.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Edward, Lester, James and Harold; and his sister Anita Jones.
Visitation will be held on Monday February 11, 2019 from 2-4 PM at the East Jordan United Methodist Church in rural Sterling. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 10 – 10:45 AM followed by the funeral service at 11 AM at the East Jordan United Methodist Church. Burial will conclude with military honors at East Jordan Cemetery.
