Dorothea Henriette Biemann married Johann Adolph Ehlers in Germany. In the spring of 1857, accompanied by their children, Sophia Alice, Frederick (Fritz), Heinrich (Henry) and John FM, they sailed from Hamburg, Germany on the JOHN BERTRAM, a 3-masted square rigged ship, to Castle Garden, New York, arriving there June 3, 1857. After their arrival at Castle Garden, they boarded a boat owned by the Canada Company and set sail for their new home, a land grant from the Canada Company near Dashwood, Ontario, Canada. After settling near Dashwood, they became John and Dorothy Ehlers. After arriving in Canada, they had two more children, William and Nancy. John and Dorothy spent the remainder of their lives in and near Dashwood.
