Bobby Joe “B.J.” Tompkins Sr., 85 of Bowie, took his Heavenly flight on Monday, February 4, 2019, surrounded by his family and friends, in Decatur, Texas.
A Celebration of Life is set for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Central Baptist Church in Bowie, with Pastor Gregg Shaw officiating.
Burial to follow at Mallard Cemetery, east of Montague.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.

B.J. was born January 16, 1934 in Mallard, TX to Mose and Hattie (Parr) Tompkins. He graduated from Forestburg High School in 1951. After school B.J. then joined the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany as a medic, and spent time playing on the Army’s basketball team abroad.
He worked in field maintenance for Davis Gas in Bowie for over 40 years. On April 24, 1981 B.J. married Barbara Craddock in Decatur, TX.
B.J. enjoyed many sports, particularly golf, softball and quail hunting. He loved his church family and was a member of Central Baptist Church since 2002.
He is preceded in death by his parent, sons Mike and Joey Tompkins, daughter-in-law Kay Tompkins, two granddaughters and sister Paula Thomas.
B.J. is survived by his wife Barbara Tompkins of Bowie; children Sabra Ann Robertson and husband Greg of Bowie and Brad Tompkins of Callisburg; extended family Richie Evans and wife Kristi of Gordonville and Jana Turbeville and husband Mike of Gainesville; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother Jimmy Dale Tompkins and wife Darlene of Nocona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
