Funeral services for Paula Gene "Big Momma" Thompkins Thomas, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the Harvey-Douglas Centennial Chapel with Reverend Jody Ham officiating. Interment will follow at the Gene Autry Cemetery.


Born on June 11, 1929 in Mallard, Texas, to Marvin B. and Hattie Georgia Parr Tompkins, she died Oct. 15, 2008, at her Gene Autry residence.


She and J.H. Thomas were married on Oct. 17, 1960 in Las Vegas, Nev.


Paula had been a resident of Gene Autry for the past 42 years moving there from Greenville, Okla. She had worked as an assemblist for General Dynamics. She was a member of the Gene Autry Roping Club and of the Baptist faith.


Survivors include her husband of the home; sons, James Raymond Bryant Jr. and wife Sue of Krum, Texas, and Homer Clayton Thomas and wife Darla of Claremore, Okla.; daughters, Treva Dale Cheek and husband Hal of Gene Autry, Okla., and T. Jalynn Landeros and husband Phillip, Jr. of Ardmore, Okla.; brothers, Bobby Joe Tompkins and wife Barbara of Bowie, Texas, Jimmy Dale Tompkins and wife Darlene of Nocona, Texas; sister-in-law, Lavell Morris of Marietta, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; extended family, Sabra Robertson and husband Greg of Bowie, Texas and Bugger McCustion and husband Wayne of Gene Autry, Okla.. Preceded in death by her parents and a son, Joe Randell Bryant.


Pallbearers will be Nathan Thomas, Jaime Landeros, Clancy Colt Cheek, Blake Young, John Johnson and Lyndal Frank. Honorary bearers will be Gordon Walker, Jimmy Walker and Richard Perry.


The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.


In lieu of flowers memorials maybe made to the family at the First United Methodist Church or the Calvary Christian Fellowship.


Services are under the direction of the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
