Funeral services were held at the St. Paul Lutheran church, Schaller, Wednesday morning, December 10, 1969 for Chris Larsen, 85. Rev. William Timm officiated. Hymns were sung by Mrs. Glenn Johnson, Mrs. Ronald Wendel and Mrs. Ronald Grieme accompanied by Mrs. Dean McDonough. Carrying for the floral memorials were Mrs. Mabel Grieme and Miss Mabel Larsen.
Attendants were Carl Boisen, Ronald Grieme, Oliver Johnson, Marshall Robinson, Edgar Dandy and Lee Witte. Burial was in the Schaller Cemetery.
Christian Sigurd Larsen, son of Lars and Kari Nauste, was born in Erisfjorden, Norway, Nov. 26, 1884. He was baptized January 10, 1885, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith September 12, 1899.
In 1902 he came to the United States and later became a citizen of this country. On Dec. 21, 1907 he married Ellen Knutsen and they lived for 17 years on a farm south of Schaller. He bought a farm northwest of Schaller, and the family moved there in 1924.
Besides farming he was a skilled carpenter and built many of the buildings on his farm. In 1956 he moved to Des Moines, residing there until 1962, when he moved back to Schaller.
After a brief illness, he died at the Buena Vista hospital in Storm Lake December 7.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, a sister, his wife, a son Clarence and a daughter Anna Sophie.
He is survived by a son, Carl Larsen fo Waterloo, two daughters, Mrs. Clara Youngren of Odebolt, Mrs. Emma Christiansen of Schaller and their husbands, five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a brother, Luther Solhjell of Oslo, Norway, a sister, Mrs. Thea Olsen of Schaller, nieces and nephews in Norway, Minn., Iowa and many friends.
