John (Johnny) Fowler Jr. was born in Pensacola, FL into a very devout Catholic family on 12-15-1931 to John (Johnny) Fowler Sr. and Evelyn Fowler. He was the middle child of 5 kids, older sisters Marie and Janice, younger sisters Ellen and Evelyn. John passed from this life on Friday, February 1, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He entered the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18 and studied Business Management, was stationed in Japan, and Korea then Wichita, KS where he met the love of his life JoAnn Minnis. They married November 28, 1958 and made their home in Wichita, KS. They had 4 children, Jim (James), Teresa, Mike (Michael) and Ginny (Virginia). In 1965 John received orders and was stationed in Thailand for 2 years without his family, however, upon his return in 1967 the entire family was stationed in Newbury, Berkshire England until moving back to the states in 1970. They were stationed in Topeka, KS where he retired from the USAF after 20 years and lived in Topeka. In 1972 the family moved to Tulsa, OK where he continued as Assistant Manager of the Tulsa Club, later in 1974 the family moved to Bartlesville, OK where he was Assistant Manager of the Hillcrest Country Club until offered a job as manager in the town of Borger, TX for the Borger Country Club and moved the family in 1978. He brought the club out of a negative deficit within a year of taking management the management position. Refurbished the décor twice and created 2 different styles of membership bringing the club into one of the largest memberships in history. He retired from the club business in 1998 and bought a Subway Sandwich Shop franchise as a retirement investment in Fritch, TX (Subway of Fritch) and became one of the most successful shops in the TX Panhandle winning several awards for most sales and cleanliness. John passed along his work ethic to his children and was beloved by all his employees and co-workers and respected by the Borger community.

John will always leave a legacy as a wonderful leader, generous to his employees and fellow man and various charities and was very active in his church (Saint Johns Catholic), where he sung in the church choir and was also on the board of directors. He loved his children and later grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and was a very beloved brother. God definitely broke the mold when he made John Fowler and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

John is survived by two daughters, Virginia “Ginny” Fowler of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Teresa Kelley of Lawrence, Kansas; one sister, Evelyn Hanson and husband Bob of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter-in-law, Kathy Fowler; eight grandchildren, Shane, Shannon, Aaron, Justin, Layla, Ivy, Julie and Travis; seventeen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Evelyn Fowler; wife, JoAnn Minnis Fowler; son, Mike Fowler; son, Jim Fowler; son-in-law, Mark Kelley; sister, Marie Carrancejie; sister, Jan Mullen; and sister Ellen Cooke.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Cochran Mortuary Chapel of the Roses in Wichita, Kansas. Burial will take place in Wichita Park Cemetery with full military honors by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
