Joseph Earl "Joe" Padgett, 69, of Hughesville, MD died August 28, 2010 at his residence. Born May 25, 1941 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Lemuel J. Padgett and Beulah C. Padgett.

Mr. Padgett was a steam/pipe fitter. He retired from St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C. in 1994, after 30 years of service. He was also employed by the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, MD from 1960 - 1965. He also had served in the Maryland National Guard from 1964 - 1969. He was a member of St. Francis DeSales Church in Benedict, MD. and enjoyed being in his boat on the water, hunting, gardening, camping, playing cards, watching football, spending time with his dog, Lucky, and enjoyed being with his granddaughters and watching them play sports .

Mr. Padgett was preceded in death by his parents Lemuel and Beulah Padgett and sisters, Ethel and Lillian Milstead, Ada Leone, and Violet Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Padgett; son, Joseph E. Padgett, Jr. and wife Jody, of Charlotte Hall, MD, son James K. Padgett, of Hughesville, MD; daughter, Donna S. Goldsmith and fiancé Brian K. Drury, of Hughesville, MD; brother, Lemuel Padgett and wife Pam, of King George, VA; sisters, Rose Stone of Mechanicsville, MD, Jeanette Vandergrift and husband Arwin of Nanjemoy, MD, and Helen Wise of Welcome, MD.; granddaughters, Danielle N. and Ayla M. Padgett and Debra M. Nicklin; great-grandsons Anthony, Troy, and Bradley. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who loved him very much.

Pallbearers are Thomas Stonestreet, David Stonestreet, Brian Drury, Patrick Vandergrift, Greg Atkins, and Donovan Padgett.

The family will receive friends for Joe's Life Celebration on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 2 - 4p.m. and 6 - 8p.m. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A prayer service will be held at 7:00p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin Cusic on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis DeSales Church, Benedict, MD. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Church Cemetery, Bryantown, MD.
