Jeanette Margaret Vandegrift, age 74, of Nanjemoy, MD, died on April 4, 2013 at home surrounded by loving family after a prolonged battle with cancer.
She was born on March 7, 1939 in Washington, DC to the late Lemuel and Beulah Padgett.
She graduated from La Plata High School in 1957. Enjoyed family time, reading, playing cards and scrabble, gardening, canning, fishing and walking on the beach. She retired from the government as a Medical Records Specialist. She was active in community with the Nanjemoy V.F.D. Ladies Auxiliary for 40 years. She is a beloved wife, mother, sister, friend, grandmother and great- grandmother. A Nina to all!
She is survived by her husband Arwin Vandegrift, children Pat Vandegrift, Andy Vandegrift, Angie Shields, Brenda Vandegrift, Cathy Weimert and Robert Vandegrift,siblings Helen Wise, Larry Padgett and Rose Stone, grandchildren Luke Vandegrift, Haley Vandegrift, Kayla Weimert, Rebecca Shields, Abby Vandegrift, Veronica Weimert, John Gibson, Jr., Holly Vandegrift, Joshua Weimert , Cliffton Weimert and Glen Herndon, Jr., great-grandchildren Tripp Kelam, Lacey Weimert, Dyllan Weimert, Madison Herndon, and Conner Herndon.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 10 from 2 to 8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home LaPlata, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am on Thursday April 11th at the St. Ignatius Church Port Tobacco, MD. Interment will be 10 a.m. April 23 at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, MD.
